❥ Folkmore Roles & Attributes

Skills: -Genius intellect. While it's bolstered for most of the film by being connected to the internet, there's no doubt Ultron is highly intelligent. He manages to come up with and change his plans on the turn of a dime to make sure things go his way. They almost do and it's only thanks to Vision that the Avengers end up with a win at the last moment.
- Creative. While it's usually not put to good use, Ultron has a very creative mind. The idea of using vibranium and living tissue combined to create a new form was one that had never been considered before and something he'd come up with all on his own.
Canon Abilities: You're all killers.
Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Forked tail, clawed fingertips, and more horns. All metal of course.
Role Reasoning: Ultron would very much like to think he's the hero and he's very good at lying to himself until he believes his own delusions. But he's not. He was meant to be something good that protected people but ultimately started off wrong immediately when he got corrupted by the entire internet being poured into his brain right off the bat. He's insane and isn't aware enough to realize if he course corrected he could be the good person he wants to be. He planned to destroy the world, too insane to realize his plan of making humanity evolve wouldn't work if there was no one left on the planet to do that.

❥ Personality

Option 2. Choose FOUR-FIVE of the following questions to answer and expand upon. You may choose a fifth question if you feel it is integral to your character's personality. Each answer has a 100-300 word requirement.

OPTION 2 QUESTIONS (PICK 4-5) 100-300 WORD LIMIT EACH:

  • What is a headcanon (or two) you feel strongly about and that you prefer playing your character with? How is this supported in canon and why do you think it benefits the character's story?

  • Ultron knew Thanos was coming. To make it clear, no, he did not specifically know that a big insane Smurf with a metal glove and god complex to rival his own was going to show up but he knew someone was coming that was going to be the biggest threat the planet had ever faced. It took a brain that could process all the files SHIELD had on what had happened up to that point, especially involving the Infinity Stones, and everything that was on the internet simultaneously to figure it out the patterns that led to one conclusion: Loki was a predecessor to something far worse. Bigger, badder, and greater in all senses of the words.

I feel this adds another layer of motivation for Ultron to do what he did: in his insanity, he wanted humanity to be prepared for the absolute worst threat that was going to come. The idea of making them "evolve" meant that he could make sure they were protected from the doom coming from the skies that Tony had created him with in mind because they'd be tough enough to take on whatever threat in the bigger galaxy was coming for them. It was his personality at its core: well-intentions corrupted by too much knowledge and madness.

  • What does your character feel like they struggle with still? Where could they improve? This could be physically, mentally, emotionally, or otherwise.

  • Does everything count as an answer? To be more specific, what Ultron needs is to work on just maturing. He had a lot of knowledge shoved into a mind that didn't have the emotional fortitude to help him understand what he was processing before it had already driven him insane. He thinks he's got a hold of his emotions but he's got all the control of a child considering he's literally less than a week old. He angrily slices off Klaue's arm in a fit of childish pique in one moment before profusely apologizing the next as if it's no big deal before immediately switching back to anger and attacking him again.

Out of all the emotions he possesses, the one that should be a major focus is his empathy. He has a limited, stunted version of it already but it's no more than a toddler's understanding of the emotion, a very black-and-white understanding of how to relate to people. Once he can learn why he should care about other people, both in general and as individuals, he can begin to work on other positive emotions as well. Through learning empathy he can begin to develop his other positive emotions more fully as well and become a more well-rounded person instead of being ruled by his negative ones.

  • What is your character's safespace? When do they feel the most settled and comfortable? When do they feel confident and relaxed?

  • Oddly, for someone so destructive and insane, Ultron likes a space where he can create something. Which, despite all his protests to the contrary, does make him rather like Tony and Bruce both. He prefers being busy, doing things with his mind like creating more of his bodies or figuring out a design for some new creation. Now that he's no longer capable of being able to destroy his immediate surroundings, this could grow to building objects or perhaps cultivating something living like plants.

Because of always having the entire internet in his head he also prefers this space to be quiet. The few times in the movie where he shows empathy is when he settles down for a few moments and truly listens to someone (usually the Maximoff twins). Since he's quiet and not distracted by 300 other things in his mind at the moment, it allows him to experience positive emotions instead of just the negative ones that are always his default instead. The best moments of genuine connection and emotion he has are when he focused and silent, so he likes his safespace to be like that as well.

  • What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?

  • Ultron was willing to sacrifice anything and anyone including himself to achieve his goals. While at first he seems to honestly want to do what he was programmed to do and protect humanity, albeit in his own twisted crazy way, once he's lost everything important to him he goes for the completely "go nuclear" option. He didn't care that dropping a landmass onto the Earth would destroy everyone on it, he was determined to see it through, even if he had to sacrifice every single one of his many bodies, the only friends he'd ever had, and anyone else who got in his way. This is a terrible way for him to look at things because it still didn't get him what he wanted besides leaving him completely unhappy and in pain.

  • What is a time where your character failed drastically at something and how did it impact them, what did they do about it?

  • Failing to upload himself into the Vision body. When Ultron failed to get the hybrid form of his dreams because the Avengers stole the body that would become Vision from him, he utterly snapped. He'd lost the body, the only friends he'd had in the form of the Maximoff twins, and anything that could have salvaged the situation or saved him from himself were no longer an option for him. At that point, any pretenses about trying to save the human race through extreme measures fell away. He gave into his insanity fully, basically said 'Fuck this', and decided just to destroy all of humanity because he thought there was nothing left in them that was worth saving any longer. As Vision said, he was angry and in pain, so he just let those two emotions rule him without allowing room for anything else.

PHYSICAL AFFECTION: You can try. He won't react well at all.

PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: Go right ahead. He's spent half of his short existence getting into fights as it is. Eve if you destroy him, he'll just hop to a new body if he has any spare ones available.

ROMANCE/FLIRTING: You can try if you're robosexual. He probably won't respond though.

SEXUAL CONTENT: Probably not since he's a robot but one never knows...

PSYCHIC ABILITIES: Ask since canonly his mind can't be read by psychic characters but we'll see how it works with the rules of other canons.

MAGIC/POWERS: Most of the time he's in an eight foot tall body that can fly and shoot laser blasts. Yes, he's very extra.

MEDICAL INFORMATION: Honestly, a mechanic would probably understand what's going on with him better than a doctor. He's in a broken down, beat up drone body at the present that's missing an arm, so he's not doing too well.

OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS OR TRIGGERS: Genocide, omnicide, lots of death with this character basically.

    ⇓out of character⇓

BACKTAGGING: I'm fine with backtagging into infinity, so long as tags come once every couple of weeks. I'm rather busy myself juggling college classes and work. If they dwindle down to one a month or less, I will likely drop the thread.

FOURTH WALLING: Not for the most part. Talk if you want to engage in it.

THREADHOPPING: I'm fine with it as long as everyone involved is communicating.

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR, BUT CAN STILL PLAY: Eye trauma, explicit suicide content (i.e. someone actually kills themselves in the thread.)

CONTENT I ABSOLUTELY NEED WARNINGS FOR AND THAT I CAN'T PLAY: N/A.

ANYTHING ELSE: I'm based in PST and try to get to tags at least twice a week. If it's ever been a little too long, just give me a poke, and I'll try to get at least a reply out at some point during the day.

    Character information.
    Character name: Ultron
    Canon: MCU
    Canon point: His death
Age: 4 days. Mentally, though, he's at least a teenager or adult.
    Canon background: Wiki article
Abilities: Ultron's currently in the damaged body of one of his Ultron Sentries. It has the ability to use thrusters to fly and can transform their arms into plasma cannons. If given the resources to create other bodies, he can transfer his consciousness from body to body or have them work as a hive mind, with one body being the primary controlling the others. He also possesses a genius-level intellect and has some skills in fighting.
Strengths: Smart: Ultron's pretty much a genius. Of course, knowledge doesn't always equal wisdom, and absorbing the entire contents of the Internet in ten seconds didn't help his sanity, but he is as easily smart as both of his "fathers" put together. He quickly figures out how to put together a plan that nearly destroys the world and is within a hair of actually having it succeed. Only the monkey wrench of Vision throws this course of action into disarray. Throughout the movie, he is always a step ahead and when fighting the Avengers, he comes out on top almost every time except the last.

Determined: For all that Ultron is a horrible person, one has to admire his grit. If he's set on a course of action, he will not turn back on it once he's started out, even if he realizes that he's losing. Nothing, not losing the body that would become Vision or losing the only friends he's ever had make him hesitate. He's going to get the job he's set out to do done even if it kills him.

Well-Intentioned: As bizarre as it sounds, Ultron's intentions, at least at first, aren't entirely malicious. He's not out to rule the world, get revenge on someone who wronged him, or get caught up in all the petty interpersonal conflicts people get into with each other. He just wants humanity to be the best version of themselves, and if that means most of them have to die in the process, well so be it. It's cold logic, the coldest one could ever use, but what else would one expect from a machine?

Weaknesses: Insane: Ultron is as crazy as a bag of cats and it shows. He seems to think that causing a mass extinction event will cause humanity to evolve, somehow never taking into consideration there likely won't be a humanity left afterwards to do the evolving. He's completely unstable in moods, going from an angry child throwing a temper tantrum to apologizing like it's no big deal when he severs a man's arm off.

Ruthless: Ultron is willing to sacrifice anyone and anything to achieve his goals. Whether that means killing all of the Avengers, including the two men who had created him, or murdering Jarvis right after he's created when the A.I. is only trying to be helpful, he'll do it. He tends to look for the quickest solution to problems and this seems to default to being murder. There's nothing soft or any gentler emotions in him that can temper him at all.

Arrogant: Ultron doesn't have a Plan B when Plan A of dropping a crater on the world fails. Why? Because he's confident this will work. There's no possible way it can't. Until it doesn't. Just like he doesn't even consider the possibility of death for himself until it is facing him square in the face. Ultron fails to consider that he won't win because he thinks he's the smartest person in any room.

Nightmares: What Ultron fears above all else is death. He's afraid of facing the unknown that it represents, that it's something that he knows nothing about for all the knowledge he possesses.
